My name is Jay, and I like movies. I also like writing about them. I’ve been published in Fangoria, HorrorHound, Delirium, and GoreZone magazines, with multiple cover stories. I’m always writing about film in one way or another, so why not add one more project?

Salvaged Cinema started with a collection of movies that I inherited on (many) old hard drives, along with a few boxes of physical media. A friend of a friend knew I was into weird movies and thought I might appreciate the collection.

Somewhere among the files was an otherwise unremarkable Word document with the name Chris Kerrick in it as the author. I don’t know anything about Chris, but as far as I’m concerned, this was his collection. I can only assume he passed away unexpectedly and the collection ended up in an estate sale, because this collection is INSANE. I can’t imagine anybody willingly parting with all this.

As for the movies, some were familiar.
A lot weren’t.

Most of the digital files weren’t even labeled with movie titles, just seemingly random strings of numbers. It looks like Chris ripped everything to the hard drives himself via VHS or DVD, and the random numbers in the file names kind of support that theory.

So, I started figuring out what they were.

That turned into an archive of THOUSANDS of movies spanning exploitation, horror, action, martial arts, vintage adult cinema, forgotten oddities, and plenty of things that don’t fit neatly anywhere.

If this was indeed Chris Kerrick’s collection, he was a HUGE fan of obscure cinema. Some of these don’t even have IMDb pages.

The archive also isn’t static. I’m still identifying files, finding things I missed, and adding movies from all the hard drives (16 in total!), so new titles will occasionally turn up in the pool.

The goal is simple: Watch them ALL.

Some will get written reviews.
Some get covered on the podcast.
Some may only need to be experienced once.

However…

Everything deserves to be watched once.
